We wanted a small group experience, but ended up with a private tour with Pétur (note we booked this trip a few weeks in advance). He suggested a trip to Landmannalaugar. While that is a popular destination with hot springs and beautiful scenery, the scenery along the drive is equally, if not more, spectacular. One of the highlights was a hike up to Ljótipollur aka Ugly Pond. It was far from ugly! Note that the order of photos is a bit scrambled the way they uploaded to TA. Getting back to Pétur, he's an awesome guide, great pride in his country, great knowledge of wherever you would like him to take you, good conversationalist, including covering contemporary Icelandic music during the drive! I had an amazing day fishing with Petur, he was super knowledgeable about the river and area we went to. He provided a friendly and great learning experience which can be rare to find in other guides. He showed me all the best fishing areas on the river as well as provided the best flies to fish with at that time. I am happy to say that we caught sea run brown trout which is a fish species I specifically came to Iceland to catch. Petur is very knowledgeable about all things Iceland.
